Jean Shin: The Museum Body
Jean Shin transforms donated work clothing from over forty Carter Museum employees into an immersive installation that makes visible the often-overlooked labor of museum workers. By deconstructing and reconstructing garments ranging from guard uniforms to staff attire, the artist creates a collective portrait that functions as both quilt and tribute to the people behind the scenes. This evolving project, first developed at MoMA twenty years ago, invites viewers to consider the museum not only as a place to experience art but as a workplace shaped by a community of creative professionals. Through this textile transformation, Shin reveals the museum as a collective body formed by the voices, vision, and efforts of its diverse staff.
